District Details New 1,000-Student Elementary on Central Pike, Contractor to Be Presented to Board

Jeff Lutrell said funding has been secured for a new elementary school on Central Pike and described the facility as roughly a 1,000-student elementary intended to relieve crowding in the Rutland area. “A little bit about the school, in case you don't know, it'll be 1000 student elementary school,” he said.
Lutrell said the design will mirror a building under construction at Legrardeau and that he plans to bring a contract with RJ Anderson to the Board of Education by the end of the month. He cautioned that the move-in timetable depends on weather and construction progress but said it was possible the district could occupy the building as soon as the next school year. He noted a 52-acre parcel for sale across the road and said past experience shows subdivisions often follow new school construction, which bears on long-term enrollment projections.
