Trustees back exploring under‑bridge MVP Fitness Court; grant covers a fraction of expected cost
Summary
Presenter Maggie described an MVP Health Fitness Court proposal to site equipment under the bridge on George Street; MVP grant support up to about $40,000 was mentioned but full systems can cost up to $200,000, so additional funding sources would be required before the project proceeds.

Maggie (speaker S5) presented a proposal to pursue an MVP Health Fitness Court under the bridge on George Street, adjacent to the existing basketball court. She said the program is part of a national campaign to install public fitness equipment with app-based instruction and local ambassador training. "This is a national campaign that MVP Health is doing," S5 said; a video presentation included national program remarks from Mitch Benach (speaker S7), who said the campaign aims to bring free outdoor fitness to communities.
Maggie told trustees MVP Health offers grants in the range of up to about $40,000 but cautioned complete fitness-court systems can cost up to $200,000; the village would need to pursue additional grant and private funding sources (county support, developer contributions, bank community grants and state community grants were cited). The proposed site under the bridge was chosen to allow year-round access and to avoid duplicating space at Payne Street Park, which is less accessible in winter and already heavily used. Trustees asked about staffing and safety; Maggie said the court is intended to be unstaffed and app-guided, and that cameras installed under the bridge as part of a prior project provide monitoring for the area.
