Mesquite ISD reports pre‑K gains, strong Spanish literacy; math remains a focus

Administration officials said students who attended Mesquite ISD pre‑K showed approximately a 23% advantage in kindergarten readiness versus students who did not attend pre‑K. Spanish‑language literacy results were reported as 92% (kindergarten), 89% (1st grade) and 83% (2nd grade) on or above grade level for students tested in Spanish. District staff credited participation in the Texas Reads Texas LEADS grant for leadership development and instructional coaching, and said the district will expand the work across all 34 elementary campuses next year.
Officials cautioned that mathematics remains an area for improvement: kindergarten math achievement rose but fewer than half of 1st and 2nd graders were meeting grade‑level expectations in mathematics. The administration said priorities for next year include strengthening teacher knowledge of number sense and expanding coaching supports.
