Mesquite ISD highlights care clinic growth, counseling capacity limits and grant dependence

Mesquite ISD counseling leaders briefed the board July 13 on services for the 2025–26 school year, reporting expansion of the care clinic, measurable student improvements in supportive programs, and capacity limits tied to space and staffing.
Director Christie Davis said the care clinic has provided services ‘‘that they likely would not have accessed in any other way’’ and that opening a second evening location resulted in more than 15,000 appointments and an estimated family savings of over $2,200,000. The department added McKinney‑Vento and foster‑care social workers to its portfolio and reported a 4% increase in high‑school students enrolled in at least one advanced class after more intentional advising. Davis warned, however, that the program has reached space and supervisor capacity: many rooms have been repurposed and supervisors ethically limit the number of interns they oversee.
Board members discussed partnerships, internship supervision limits and advocacy for sustained funding. Davis and colleagues said some services are sustained by grant funding that will sunset and that the district will continue to seek state and external support to maintain programs.
