Board approves CMAR award for new pre‑K and multiple GMPs for school renovations

The board approved the administration's recommendation to award the construction manager at‑risk (CMAR) contract for the new pre‑K center to Jackson Construction after a solicitation that notified 17 vendors and produced 11 responses. Administration described the project estimate at about $68,000,000.
WRA Architects and MISD Construction Services presented separate GMPs for Horn High School (GMP presented at $9,118,498), AC New Middle School (GMP ~ $8,165,202; total construction ~$9,421,234.65) and McDonald Middle School (GMP ~$14,000,187). Trustees questioned budget increases on some projects. "I notice that this is over the original budget amount from the 25 bond program," Trustee Seward said; WRA explained added scope including additional fire sprinkler work and other deferred maintenance items that increased cost.
The board approved the GMPs by motion. Administration said funding will come from the district's 2025 bond program and outlined scope additions (cafeteria expansion, kitchen rebuild, secured vestibules, roofing, technology and HVAC replacement) that drove some cost increases.
