Meyer described the practical change: "The 2nd step now will be the teacher will confiscate the phone. They will take it to the office, they will pick, the student will pick it up at the end of the day." He said the process preserves teacher classroom management while placing longer-term follow-up with the dean. The policy allows teacher-permitted phone use for discrete instructional activities (for example, production class or PE activities) under teacher supervision.
The board approved the first reading and scheduled a second reading in June; administrators said the handbook amendment will be implemented after the second reading.
