LCISD reports spring benchmark gains, outlines targeted interventions

District instructional leaders presented spring benchmark results and proposed interventions aimed at improving STAAR readiness. The team noted that of 27 benchmark assessments given across grade levels and languages, 15 showed double-digit gains compared with last spring. Instructional staff said some assessments (notably parts of 3rd- and 7th-grade math) showed small declines and explained those declines were tied to units not yet covered on the spring assessment.

Presenters used cohort analysis to show growth over time: for example, the presenter reported that last year's 3rd graders were 70% at "approaches," and "this year as 4th graders, they're 77% at approaches," with increases in meets and masters bands as well. Staff outlined action steps including PLC support, lesson plan audits, learning walks, coaching, and focused intervention groups keyed to specific standards. Trustees asked clarifying questions about how benchmark data maps to interventions, whether benchmarks are recorded in grade books (they are not), and supports for Spanish-language assessments and students transitioning into the district. Instructional leaders said they will continue data-driven campus support and develop focused mid-year plans for priority campuses.
