Christine Miller, the district's federal programs supervisor, reviewed the SOAR/summer learning program and said the district used a state waiver to run a Monday‑through‑Thursday schedule from June 3–27. "It was a 16 day program," Miller said, and staff served more than "5,500 hot lunches at our 5 locations."
Miller outlined staffing and logistics: 296 staff overall, 13 site coordinators, 46 educational assistants, 156 teachers, 6 nurses and 50 bus drivers. The program expanded opportunities for families with English, Spanish and Arabic translators at a family connect night, coordinated curriculum across grade bands, and used ESSER funds to support staffing and meals. Miller said students were surveyed and that 68% of one cohort made adequate growth on the district metric cited.
Board members asked about attendance effects of the Monday‑Thursday schedule; Miller said attendance was up but did not have exact percentages on hand. The district said it will continue evaluation and consider progress reports and parent communications to show program outcomes.
