Wilson County Schools receive $198,247 grant for 93 student instruments

Carter Noblin, the district's fine arts coordinator, told the school board the grant from the Holland's Opus Foundation and the CMA Foundation totaled $198,247.85 and purchased 93 instruments for seven Wilson County middle schools. "On behalf of Wilson County Schools and specifically the 7 middle schools receiving these amazing resources, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks for the grant totaling $198,000 $198,247.85," Noblin said.
Noblin said the district estimates about 1,100 students will be served over the instruments' lifetimes and noted the items were of "high quality" and part of a broader effort to remove equipment barriers to music education. He recognized music teachers by name and introduced Todd Shipley from the Holland's Opus Foundation, who was in the audience. The presentation included a short student performance from 20 middle‑school musicians; the board thanked the students and teachers.
Superintendent/Director (present) and board members framed the donation as an investment in arts education that can boost confidence and provide extracurricular opportunities. Board members and administrators said they will monitor the distribution of instruments and return to the board with any follow‑up reporting or recognition plans.
The board offered unanimous thanks and moved on to subsequent agenda items.
