Board approves Medpark and school off-site improvements, multiple change orders and budget amendments
Summary
Commissioners authorized task order work for Southern Nash Middle School off-site traffic improvements (state-reimbursable), approved change orders for the Medpark renovation (including low-voltage network hardware) and adopted several budget amendments covering asset forfeiture, community development and other program adjustments.
County staff presented multiple capital project items and budget amendments on Aug. 3 and the board approved task orders, change orders, and budget amendments necessary to advance construction and reimbursements.
The board authorized Task Order 2 with Stocks Engineering to manage off-site traffic improvements for the new Southern Nash Middle School (intersection improvements at NC 97 and 581), noting the work is expected to be eligible for state reimbursement. County staff also presented a change order of $92,286.88 for low-voltage network hardware at the Medpark building and additional change orders totaling $68,537.49 for flooring and electrical work that revised the substantial completion date. Staff said contingency funds and health-department funds will cover portions of the work and recommended approval. The board approved the contracts and authorized the county manager to execute the change orders.
On budget matters, staff presented a multi-item budget amendment packet including appropriation of citizen-support donations ($2,191) for sheriff community support, reallocation of asset forfeiture funds and a $203,408 reappropriation for swift-water rescue needs, reappropriation of control-substance funds ($53,311) for equipment and an updated workforce-development revenue amount ($359,846). The board adopted the amendments as presented.
