Nash County adopted a text amendment on Aug. 3 to add a distinct land-use category for smoke, tobacco, vape, and CBD shops and to impose site-specific development standards.
Planning staff said the amendment creates a new use in the county's permitted-use table but requires a zoning permit ("d") and includes development standards modeled on rules for bars and similar uses. Key standards include a 500-foot separation from another similar shop, churches, schools, public parks, residential lots and existing residences; parking areas associated with such shops must be at least 75 feet from those sensitive property lines. The planning board and TRC recommended approval; no members of the public spoke during the hearing and the board approved the amendment. Staff said the change becomes immediately effective in the current UDO and will be incorporated in the draft revised UDO.
