Business services: interim budget reviews due and ASB workshop planned

Heather Randall, director of business and administrative services, told the board that first-interim budget reports from districts and charters should be submitted to the county by the meeting day and that the office will "begin reviewing those and get those certifications submitted to the state by January 15." She also updated the board on the coast office expansion, which she said is mostly complete.
Randall described a local training plan following a new Associated Student Body (ASB) manual from the Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team (FICMAT). Staff member Michelle Hubert attended a FICMAT workshop and is assembling a local ASB workshop to help high schools strengthen their ASB accounting systems and reduce recurring audit findings.
Board members discussed the risks inherent to ASB accounting — multiple volunteers handling receipts and concessions can create audit challenges and potential opportunities for fraud. Members praised the proposed trainings and said stronger local supports could reduce audit findings and improve controls.
