MCOE staff outline community schools work and grant-readiness

During her educational services report, Dr. Nicole Laddell reviewed the state Community Schools program and how county districts are positioning to apply for related grants. "Community schools is a program where the school is considered the center of the community and you build out the resources and family resources and community based organizations all kind of wrapped in to be really threaded together," she said.
Laddell described four program pillars, including mental health support and after-school programming, and said the county's coordinator is working to build capacity and trainings for districts interested in formal Community Schools designation. She noted that some sites—such as Manchester—already act as community hubs and therefore may be well positioned to receive grant support to expand existing services rather than start new programs.
Board members asked for further details and Laddell said staff will return with follow-up on grant timelines and capacity-building work to support districts seeking Community Schools funding.
