Commission plans Project Unity "Together We Dine" event for 25th anniversary

The Community Multicultural Commission on July 16 began preparations for Project Unity's 25th-anniversary program, which the commission plans to host in September as part of its anniversary activities. Vice Chair CJ described the Project Unity format as small facilitated tables designed to surface lived experiences and suggested the commission identify an overarching theme and operational questions before the presenter arrives.
"It is a forum that is conducted by Project Unity, and there are individuals there from all walks of life," CJ said, explaining the three-round listening-and-response structure used by the program. Members raised potential topics for discussion including growth and differences between north and south Garland, and emphasized that logistics and cost will shape what is feasible. Staff was asked to compile operational questions for Charlene Edwards and to return a proposed agenda for a vote at the next meeting.
Commissioners also discussed sponsorship and food logistics for the event, noting that costs will determine the scale of attendance and whether the commission or outside partners will host food. The commission agreed to collect topic suggestions via email, then vote on a final theme at the August meeting so staff can coordinate details ahead of the September presentation.
