District recognizes student Stock Market Game winners and wins national budget award

The Arlington ISD Board of Trustees recognized both student achievement and financial stewardship at its Feb. 19 meeting.
The minutes note that a Morton Elementary team "represented Arlington ISD and placed first" in the Stock Market Game, a curriculum-based investing simulation in which student teams "invest a virtual $100,000" to develop financial-literacy and capital-markets skills. Named students included Kimberly Bonilla Handy, Luc Ernesto Teran and Carlos Washington.
The Board also recognized the Budget and Finance Department for receiving the Association of School Business Officials International Meritorious Budget Award, a national honor the minutes say reflects the district's commitment to "sound fiscal management, transparent financial reporting, and meeting rigorous standards in budget development and presentation." Trustees commended the team for high state financial-integrity ratings and stewardship of public funds.
