Mesquite ISD honors teachers, paraprofessionals and students during board meeting

The board recognized two Apple Corps teachers (Jocelyn Pita and Jennifer Miller), a Star Para honoree Cynthia Fuentes, community partners Didi's Discounts and PetSmart, and dozens of student fine arts and athletic qualifiers at the March meeting.
At its regular meeting the Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees recognized outstanding educators, paraprofessionals, community partners and numerous student achievers.
Ms. Smith introduced the Apple Corps honorees and praised their contributions. Jocelyn Pita, a Vanguard High School U.S. history and Mexican American studies teacher, thanked mentors and family and reflected on her five years with the district: "Mesquite ISD did not simply provide me with a job. It provided me with a career that has allowed me to grow beyond anything I could have imagined," Pita said. Jennifer Miller of Kimbrough Middle School, introduced as the second Apple Corps honoree, also thanked colleagues and described a long career in the district.
The board also recognized the district's March Star Para, Cynthia Fuentes, and thanked community partners Didi's Discounts and PetSmart for their reading-buddy contributions at Tosh Elementary. Dozens of students and coaches were recognized for state and regional qualifiers in music, visual arts, UIL academics, wrestling, swimming and basketball; district leaders said the recognitions highlight the district’s 125th anniversary celebrations and student accomplishment across academics, arts and athletics.
