Discipline reports fall across categories, Beaumont ISD official says

Randall (Randal) Maxwell presented comparative discipline statistics to the Safety & Security Committee showing declines in several categories compared with the prior year. Maxwell reported bullying incidents fell from 419 last year to 321 this year; student-on-student assaults decreased from seven to two; assaults against employees fell from 12 to one; possession-of-cell-phone incidents dropped from 385 to 108.
Maxwell noted that teachers no longer permit phones out in class to prevent recordings and that refusals to surrender phones are rare this year (one student was sent to a program called Pathways). Committee members did not take formal action on discipline policy changes during the meeting but recorded the data for further review.
The numbers were presented as district discipline metrics and used to frame other safety and training priorities discussed later in the meeting.
