"The state now requires that we have breeching tools and ballistic shields on every campus," Malbrough said, and added the donation will help the district meet immediate needs while bids are solicited. The committee did not vote on any purchase at the meeting and directed staff to return with cost estimates and procurement options at a later date.
The update was presented as part of the committee’s broader review of safety protocols; Chief Malbrough framed the equipment changes as a district-level response to new statutory expectations and recent school-tragedy planning. The committee set no procurement deadlines during the meeting but requested follow-up reporting.
