Barbers Hill highlights summer professional development, TELPAS changes and summer‑school gains

Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole and Assistant Superintendent Chloe Yowell updated trustees Aug. 25 on enrollment pressure, summer professional development and summer‑school outcomes.
Yowell told the board the district offered 85 professional development sessions this summer with 2,843 seats filled and targeted training during back‑to‑school week; intermediate teachers received Kagan training and middle‑school teachers participated in 7 Steps to a Language Rich Classroom. She also noted Texas is returning to a TELPAS composite scoring model for 2025–26.
On summer programming, Yowell reported the district served about 125 more students than the previous year. Program results included a 100% success rate in Credit Recovery, 100% of Extended Year Service (EYS) students meeting IEP goals, 100% measurable gains for Title I reading participants, and 8,508 hours of accelerated instruction delivered to 319 students in grades 3–12.
