Local high school student to paint 5-foot heart mural for Jerome pocket park

Ida Clark, Planning and Zoning Manager, revisited the Hearts Across the Valley program and said staff’s earlier call for local artists drew no responses; a local high school student, referred to as Miss Ireland, offered to paint a 5-by-5-foot cement heart as her senior project. Clark said the heart will be painted on both sides, then returned to CBH Homes for an anti-graffiti, weather-proof clear coat before being placed in the pocket park at Main Street and Tiger Drive.
Miss Ireland told the council she chose a design featuring the state flower and a locally common butterfly and will paint the heart after school in Fire Station 3’s bay; CBH Homes will assist with paint costs and delivery to the permanent location. Council members expressed general support and staff confirmed the process for protective coating and placement.
