Chisago Lakes board certifies special election returns, two bond questions fail

The Chisago Lakes School Board on Feb. 19 adopted a resolution canvassing the returns of the Feb. 10 special election and declared that both bond questions failed to carry. The resolution records that School District Question 1 (authorization to issue up to $48,100,000 in general obligation school building bonds) and, if Question 1 had passed, Question 2 (authorization up to $7,505,000 for athletic facility improvements) did not receive majority approval.
Member Lori Berg introduced the canvass resolution and Member Josh Soderlund seconded it; the board voted unanimously in favor of adopting the resolution (votes recorded in the minutes: Sarah Aadland, Josh Soderlund, Brenda Carlson, Jennifer Penzenstadler, Jeff Lindeman and Lori Berg). The minutes state that each ballot question “is hereby declared not to have carried,” and the board instructed the clerk to notify the Commissioner of Education and provide certified vote totals as required by state statute.
