Student speaker: landfill expansion would be less than 1 mile from Waterloo schools, risks students' health

Sarah Beard, who identified herself as a student, told the Town Board the proposed landfill expansion would be close to local schools and said young people would not want to move to Seneca Falls if the project proceeds. "My name is Sarah Beard, and I am a senior... less than 1 mile from Waterloo schools," she said during public comment, noting concerns about students' health.
Beard said the community is seeing effects she described as harming students and urged the board to "hold off" on any approvals pending further study and air-quality testing. She said residents are collecting VOC and air-quality data to support their concerns and asked the board to consider those results before making decisions.
