Public commenters urged the Seneca Falls Town Board on Dec. 10 to pause plans for a proposed landfill expansion, saying the site already contains buried toxic waste that could reach groundwater and harm residents. A speaker summarized the concern succinctly: "So if you care about safeguarding the health of our residents, if you care about protecting our water quality, our soil quality, our air quality," the Public commenter said, asking the board to consider public health before approving any expansion.
Commenters said the expansion would bring "tons of more garbage" to a site they described as already contaminated and argued the risk to children and to local drinking water outweighs economic considerations. Several speakers asked the board to hold off on any approval until independent testing and safety reviews are completed. The public comment period closed with a repeated plea to the supervisor to "think of our future when you vote," and speakers thanked staff and organizers for the forum.
