Trustees discuss Bond Package C, parking options and classroom technology

Chief Operations Officer Dr. Coopersmith provided an update on capital improvements and Bond Package C at the March 26 board meeting, noting the district is in an interim period for settle-up on the new junior high and that final scopes and pricing for Package C remain to be shared in subsequent Board Packet attachments. Dr. Coopersmith reported that five of six exterior door safety audits have been conducted and passed; the state will conduct a Vulnerability Study on April 8.
Board President Grant Lischka and members (including Kenneth Stein and Jared Lischka) discussed parking alternatives for Bellville High School — options included expanding student parking, paving the gravel road to the agriculture facility, resurfacing several lots (main, stadium, Redneck lot), and adding spaces near the Schuman lot. Jared Lischka asked whether scopes could be pulled from the bond package and bid separately; staff explained the timeline implications for separate bidding. Heather Novicke expressed hesitancy about removing functioning SmartBoards in favor of TVs, asking staff to consider retaining working SmartBoards in classrooms.
