Beckville ISD hears update on Panola County Appraisal District budget and election results

Superintendent Devin Tate briefed trustees on the Panola County Appraisal District's proposed amended 2026 budget and the 2026–27 Board of Directors election results. Mr. Tate told the board that the district's nominee, Cody Whiddon, was elected to the appraisal district Board of Directors and that the chief appraiser, Doug, had announced his retirement but will stay on until a replacement is found. "This is just something I wanted to talk to yall about tonight," Tate said as he outlined the district's recent contact with appraisal district leadership.
Tate and Keith Williams reported holding an informal meeting with Cody Whiddon to review issues of interest to the district, and staff (Charmaine and Tate) said they are prepared for next steps if Beckville ISD is selected for a property value study. Trustees had no formal vote on the appraisal district budget at the Jan. 12 meeting; the discussion was informational and intended to keep the board apprised of developments that could affect local property valuations and district tax matters.
