The Big Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 4-0 on Aug. 11 to adopt a proposed tax rate of $0.752678 per $100 of assessed value for publication under Truth in Taxation procedures. The board recorded the proposed rate as a maintenance and operations rate of $0.666900 and a school debt service rate of $0.085778 and authorized the superintendent to file the required notices and hold hearings.
Board member Bert Otto moved adoption of the proposed tax rate; Julie Harris seconded the motion. The board also set a public hearing on the proposed 2025–26 budget and proposed tax rate for Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, a date approved by unanimous vote (Motion #6131). The actions were recorded as motions in the minutes and carried 4-0.
The board packet and public notices will provide the formal Truth in Taxation materials required by state statute. The board's adoption for publication does not finalize a tax rate; it begins the statutorily required notice and hearing process before a final rate can be set.
