Superintendent updates trustees on calendar, budget, construction and state issues

During the Feb. 19 meeting Mr. Skeeler provided a superintendent-level update covering the proposed 2026–2027 academic calendar (set for approval at the March meeting), ongoing budget work on personnel and one-time expenditures, surplus furniture auction plans, and construction updates: bond construction and the band hall are complete and the district is assessing field house renovation needs.
Mr. Skeeler also briefed trustees on legislative and TEA-related matters, noting that small and mid-size schools are on a priority list and that the district is reviewing state testing standards and the Sentinel system. The elementary, middle and high school reports included enrollment figures (Elementary 320, Middle 184, High 217) and routine operational items. Elementary Counselor Maegan O'Neal described a free virtual counseling tool named T-Chat that is available to districts.
Superintendent and principals continue to refine the academic calendar and budget for board action in March.
