The Newport City Council approved a street closure for Aug. 29 to allow a community event and a possible car show coordinated with the farmers market. Organizer Kristen Yake thanked the council for prior approval of a closure for the recent street dance and requested the new closure, proposing a 3:00 PM street closure and an event running "from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM." Councilmember Mark Zorica moved to approve the request; Councilmember Elizabeth Spring seconded and the motion carried.
Yake told the council the recent free street dance was well received; the minutes estimate attendance at about 300 people. The closure approval is limited to the event specified in the request as recorded in the minutes.
