Resident urges Newport to study ADA parking; council considers WSDOT workshop

Bill Prater of 505 Quail Loop addressed the council during audience participation to press for action on accessibility. Prater said he had reached out to the Governor and asked the City to take a "serious look at ADA parking," arguing local businesses are missing customers because of limited accessible parking and noting that "29% of the population is over 65."
Mayor Keith Campbell said the City has been "looking into this concern." Mayor Pro Tem Mark Zorica suggested replacing one council meeting with a Washington State Department of Transportation workshop so members can "ask questions about ADA parking on the state Hwy or the side streets." Administrator Abby Gribi said she could request such a workshop but "it is not a guarantee." The council did not set a date; staff follow-up will determine whether a workshop with WSDOT is scheduled.
