WWTP/WTP Superintendent Howard updated the council on a range of public‑works and wastewater issues. In parks and streets, staff have been repairing vandalism to park bathrooms, preparing the spray park for an early‑June opening, installing wrong‑way signs on Washington Avenue, removing stumps and repairing grates on Washington and Union, replacing the crosswalk sign battery at Union and 4th Street, installing a water meter at the ball field, and troubleshooting a water line at the Rodeo grounds. The Vac Truck and a City vehicle recently had mechanical repairs completed.
On wastewater operations, Howard said headworks maintenance and the annual digester maintenance have been completed and that the laboratory's fecal testing has returned "all zeros." He reported the City is working with JUB Engineers on a new disinfecting process using peracetic acid (PAA), which Howard described as "more cost effective" and noted PAA's historical use in food production since the 1960s; parallel testing will continue until results align. Howard also reported lift‑station issues on the south side and that check valves and meters are being installed in water wells; due to staffing shortages the City will hire a temporary summer maintenance worker.
