The Village of Los Lunas Board of Trustees on Jan. 29 approved updates to the village's 2026 streets and zoning GIS layers, making last year's zone changes and newly recorded subdivision street work the official map for the coming year.
"Today what we are looking at is the approvals for the GIS layers," said Alex Ochoa, describing the transition from a paper zoning atlas to an online/geodatabase system and outlining 2025 changes such as swaps between R3 and R2 residential designations, conversion of several south-of‑Main Street special‑use parcels to commercial, and additions from subdivision approvals. The council voted 4–0 to adopt the layers after a brief question-and-answer period.
Councilman Matthew Chavez asked whether development could expand up to the Isleta boundary and whether any new northern exit points were planned; Ochoa said property owners are likely to submit development plans and that Public Works had identified potential access points but no current northern exit exists. Councilman James Runyon pressed about outreach for lots north of Main Street; Ochoa said those parcels must proceed through quasi‑judicial hearings and notices, and that his department identified budget funds to pay for required notices.
The council's approval was moved by Councilman Christopher Ortiz, seconded by Councilman James Runyon and carried 4–0 (Romero, Ortiz, Runyon, Chavez — yes).
