Newport public works prepares spray park for June opening, addresses winter vandalism and repairs

WWTP/WTP Superintendent Howard provided the council with a public-works update on April 20. Staff are repairing vandalism damage to park bathrooms, preparing the spray park for an early June opening, and continuing stump removal and grate repairs on Washington Avenue and Union.
Howard reported wrong-way signs were installed on Washington Avenue in the downtown corridor and that batteries had been replaced in the crosswalk sign at Union and 4th Street. A water meter and line have been installed at the ball field; the rodeo grounds has a water line that still needs location and repair. The city also completed repairs on its vac truck and replaced brakes on a city car.
These maintenance items are operational work items noted for routine city upkeep; no major capital project funding or dates beyond the spray-park target were recorded in the minutes.
