Trustee proposes $2,000 across-the-board teacher bump, bigger hourly raises and retention stipend
Summary
Trustee Kyle proposed a $2,000 increase across the teacher pay scale (estimated cost about $791,000), a 7% raise target for hourly/nonexempt staff and a $100-per-year-of-service retention stipend for all employees; trustees asked staff to model alternatives.

Trustee Kyle presented a plan that would add a $2,000 flat increase to every teacher's pay across the pay scale, target larger percentage raises for nonexempt hourly staff, and add a retention bonus based on years of service.
Kyle said, "Whatever that percentage increase is, I think it should be a 2,000," and offered rough cost estimates: about $791,000 to add $2,000 across the teacher scale and roughly $600,000 for a graduated retention stipend at $100 per year of service for every employee. He suggested prioritizing lower-paid hourly and para staff to improve retention while acknowledging trade-offs with fund balance and the need to keep the district fiscally sound.
Board members debated whether to prefer permanent scale increases or one-time stipends, and asked staff to produce updated spreadsheets modeling the $2,000 option, a $1,500 alternative and higher nonexempt percentages so the board can act at its next meeting.
