Brenham ISD amends 2024–25 budget after hail damage; district estimates millions in repair costs

Mr. Sinclair, the district's finance presenter, told trustees the amended 2024–25 budget reshuffles previously approved line items to make sure each function is covered and to account for an unexpected hail‑damage exposure.
"Right now, we have $7,000,000 roughly in expected total costs," Mr. Sinclair said when describing current estimates; he added he included an $9,000,000 placeholder in the budget to avoid undershooting unknowns and estimated the district deductible might be "in the neighborhood of $200,000." He emphasized these figures are preliminary and that final invoices and state reimbursements could shift year‑end results.
Trustees discussed whether the district would end the year balanced after insurance recoveries and a potential bond; Kyle Hafner moved to amend the 2024–25 district budget as presented, seconded by Justin Cawley, and the board voted in favor. Mr. Sinclair said he expects additional TEA payments later that could improve the year‑end position but cautioned the amounts were estimates.
The board approved the amendment and Mr. Sinclair said he will provide a follow‑up report next month when tax collections and invoices are more complete.
