Staff previews Grand Connection plan, outdoor-event and performing-arts studies; Belgate removed for redevelopment

Staff told the commission they are preparing several planning and feasibility efforts: a consultant selection for an outdoor purpose-built event facility feasibility study, and a market-analysis and operations validation study for a potential performing-arts center tied to the Bellevue Convention Center Authority’s expansion. "We are selecting a consultant to assess the needs and the feasibility of an outdoor purpose built event facility," staff said, and said those studies will include significant public outreach.
Staff also reported that Belgate, an older Lee Kelly work on the Grand Connection, is being removed as nearby development demolition begins; staff said Belgate will be stored on a partner property and reinstalled on the redeveloped site under contractual obligations, with reinstallation likely in the late 2020s. Staff announced the cultural facility grants program launch and the switch to Submittable for applications, and said emerging-artist public-art applications will open in mid-April.
