The districts coordinator of safety and security (Joe) briefed the board on a layered safety approach that includes standard response protocols, monthly drills, and partnerships with local law enforcement. He said House Bill 33 required each campus to have a ballistic shield and an entry tool and that the district has those items on hand and has notified law enforcement of their locations.
Joe described three reporting layers: an internal anonymous-reporting form (28 reports since day one of school), Crime Stoppers reports (16 reports with 10 payouts totaling $665), and a Silent Panic Alert Technology (SPAT) on district phones and classroom devices to notify 911 and local responders with a single push. He also introduced SRO supervisor Sierra Randall and the SRO team. The district announced it will relaunch Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) to provide volunteer male role models and additional on-campus eyes and ears; training and volunteer onboarding will be provided by the district.
Trustees praised the multi-pronged approach and asked about access in the boardroom and how the community will be informed about Watch D.O.G.S.; staff said a sign-up and training timeline will be issued to parents and volunteers.
