Big Sandy ISD board approves routine budget and personnel measures, buys passenger bus

The Big Sandy Independent School District Board of Trustees met Monday, April 14, 2025, in Livingston and approved a package of routine personnel and budget measures, including the purchase of a passenger bus and the superintendent's recommended teacher contracts for 2025–26. Board President Darrell Murphy called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with five members present and two absent.
The board approved several motions unanimously among members present: the minutes of the previous meeting, the hiring schedule and the stipend schedule for 2025–26. Kabe Murphy moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lyndon Alec; the motion passed with a recorded vote of Yea: 5, Nay: 0, Absent: 2. A motion to approve the superintendent-recommended teacher contracts was made by Kabe Murphy and seconded by Lyndon Alec and likewise passed 5–0.
During the meeting the board also approved the purchase of a passenger bus (motion made by Lyndon Alec and seconded by Sheila Neal) and a non-chapter 21 agreement (motion made by Zackary Williford and seconded by Kabe Murphy). The board approved the Appraisal District Budget for 2026, noting an increase for Big Sandy ISD of $7,000 — from $59,485 to $66,367.
The board entered an executive session at 6:55 p.m. under multiple provisions of the Texas Government Code and reconvened at 7:11 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.; Board President Darrell Murphy delivered the closing prayer.
