Board approves change to class-rank policy to exclude CTE elective grades

Chapel Hill ISD trustees approved revisions to EIC (LOCAL) on June 16 that remove Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway elective grades from class-rank calculations. The change was presented by Regnal McGowan, High School Principal, who said a committee of staff, parents and counselors reviewed the policy to ensure alignment with the district’s Academies model.
The board voted to adopt the revision after McGowan recommended the exclusion to promote intentional course selection and to ensure more equitable recognition of student achievement. The motion was made by Dr. Amy Hayes and seconded by Hershal Massenburge; the motion passed with five yeas and two absences recorded.
