At a presentation before the vote, LaKeisha LeBlanc and Emily Laird outlined expected benefits—improved kindergarten readiness, early literacy and math skills, and better long-term outcomes—and detailed estimated costs. The plan calls for a full-day program staffed by approximately four teachers and four paraprofessionals (estimated annual staffing cost of about $400,000), use of the Frog Street curriculum ($4,000–$9,000), and a proposed $15,000 GRH-funded marketing and outreach campaign. Following the presentation, Trustee Shumona Collins moved to approve the expansion and related actions; Trustee Dennis Cedillo seconded and the official record shows the motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Dr. Tory C. Hill and board members emphasized the program’s focus on equity and long-term academic gains for students who enter kindergarten with early intervention. Implementation steps include staffing, curriculum procurement, possible transportation adjustments (one additional bus), and targeted enrollment outreach ahead of the 2026–2027 school year.
