Sage Long, Umatilla County Emergency Manager, asked commissioners to authorize payment of $11,592 to Pendleton Catering Company for meals supplied to the county EOC and agency partners during an emergency activation July 19–25. Long said the invoice covered 210 breakfasts, 210 lunches and 210 dinners across the activation period and that the expense would come from the general fund if not otherwise recoverable.
Long told the board that the number of personnel and level of activation drove the cost and that later food bills should be substantially lower. "The invoice includes 210 breakfasts, 210 lunches, and 210 dinners," Long said. Commissioners approved the payment and discussed possible future options, including alternative caterers or jail catering if the county had earlier notice to arrange logistics.
