CHS sees mixed benchmark moves in English I and II; district outlines coaching, PLC supports

District and campus leaders presented progress on English I and II performance objectives as part of the District Improvement Plan.
Presenters said the district set targets to increase the percentage of students meeting the STAR/STAAR standards for English I (from 33% to 40% by June 2026) and English II (from 42% to 47%). For English I presenters reported a 4-percentage-point gain on Benchmark 1; for English II the presenter said overall meets were 42% last year and 41% this year on the same measurement, with the freshman cohort showing growth from 36% to 41%. The presentation noted persistent challenges in reading and extended constructed response items and outlined actions including PLCs, targeted coaching cycles, data walks and student-led conferences. "Teachers are using focused planning, teamwork, and coaching to help students grow," one presenter said.
Campus-level initiatives at CHS include differentiated PLCs, coaching by an instructional coach and student-led conferences that engaged 23 students and families on Oct. 27. Presenters said deep-dive analyses (cold reads and ECR reflections) are in progress to identify gaps and refine instruction.
