Wayne County honors two Planning Department employees for multi-decade service

The board recognized Debbie Varcoe for 40 years and Planning Director Craig Rickard for 35 years of county service; Rickard called Varcoe "the glue of our office" and said the Planning Department has handled more than 10,000 subdivision reviews during his tenure.
During the Jan. 8 meeting the Commissioners held employee anniversary recognitions for Planning Department staff. Debbie Varcoe was honored for 40 years with Wayne County and Planning Director Craig Rickard for 35 years. Craig Rickard introduced Varcoe and said, "Ms. Varcoe is the glue of our office. She is an incredible employee committed to our County." Commissioners praised both employees for long service and leadership.
Commissioner Smith told Mr. Rickard he has done a lot of good work on transportation projects and subdivisions and said the county should be proud of those accomplishments. Mr. Rickard said he thinks the office "has handled over 10,000 subdivision reviews in his 35 years in the Planning Department," a tally he cited as evidence of the department’s workload and continuity.
