The Wayne County Commissioners on Jan. 8 rescinded a prior approval of $0.68 per mile and unanimously set the county’s mileage reimbursement rate at the IRS-approved rate of 72.5 cents per mile for 2026. The motion to rescind was made by Commissioner James Shook and the motion to set the IRS rate was made by Commissioner Brian W. Smith; both motions carried unanimously.
Commissioners said they believed tying the county rate to the IRS figure was appropriate and noted the need for further discussion on mileage policy going forward. The change replaces last week's figure and takes effect for the 2026 reimbursement schedule for county travel reimbursements.
