Administrators report promising midyear testing results; board to discuss SB 11 and training dates

Administrators told the Cherokee ISD board that midyear testing shows most students surpassing expectations; the board was also briefed on insurance budgeting, possible Senate Bill 11 action for February, and proposed training dates for the board.
Administrator Beth McDaniel told the board that middle-of-year (MOY) testing is complete and that a majority of students have surpassed expectations; she said additional training in February will be scheduled to analyze the data and that clubs and reteaching efforts have resumed for the spring semester.
Administrator Jennifer Bordner reported that pro-rated insurance amounts were helpful for budget planning, that Senate Bill 11 will be listed on the Feb. agenda for a board decision, and proposed several possible dates for required board training (Feb. 17, Feb. 19 and Feb. 25 at the service center). Bordner also noted ISO training and the district's "Team of 8" work as upcoming training priorities.
These items were reported in the open-meeting portion of the Jan. 12 meeting; several agenda items (facilities, superintendent evaluation and an employee resignation) were moved to executive session for further consideration.
