"We're asking students this year to read 2000 minutes, and we've broken it down even further. That's 300 minutes a month or 15 minutes a day," Coby said, describing monthly badges, incentives and a traveling trophy that will rotate to campuses based on minutes per student so smaller campuses are not disadvantaged by raw totals. She said campuses have already started logging minutes and that the kickoff has been posted, with parent communications on ParentSquare and campus pep rallies planned later in the year.
Libraries will track participation and campuses will receive visual trackers for students to see progress. Coby said the program ties to the district's literacy resolution and long‑term goals to increase reading volume, vocabulary and academic performance.
What happens next: campuses will roll out monthly challenges and the district will report progress at ALT meetings and through district communications.
