Officials say Airbnb will start collecting county lodging tax April 1 but may not share transaction detail

A county staff member reported to the finance committee that sales-tax receipts are up but flagged concerns about short-term rental tax implementation.
"They're gonna start collecting April 1, so we'll probably see that," the staff member said about Airbnb collections. The same staff member cautioned that other counties' experience shows Airbnb may not provide detailed transaction data: "Airbnb is supposedly, we'll be collecting it, but will not be giving us the detail. That's from what I gather from other counties and the workshops that I've been to."
Committee members said the implications for revenue distribution and any potential backlog of unpaid collections will need a future discussion. Staff noted it may take counties a couple of years to get collection and distribution processes operating smoothly.
