The Columbia County Finance Committee voted to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for sheriff patrol cars at a total cost of $24,225.
"The 16,000 is coming from the sheriff's forfeiture account," a county staff member said during discussion, and the remainder will come from the countywide donation account the county has used previously to buy AEDs for buildings. The purchase will use the state contract (SUSCO) and Rescue 1 Training for Life Inc. was named as the vendor.
Committee members moved, seconded and carried the resolution with no further debate. The action provides AEDs for patrol vehicles and uses a combination of forfeiture and donation funds rather than general fund dollars.
