The Ector ISD Board of Trustees voted to cancel the May 2, 2026 school board election after three candidates were certified unopposed. The motion to cancel was made by Shane Ball and seconded by Chris Cantrell; the board recorded six yeas, zero nays and one absence (Jonathon Akins). The board included a signed Order of Cancellation citing Section 2.053(a) of the Texas Election Code.
The Order of Cancellation named Chris Cantrell (Place 1), Bobby Brownfield (Place 6) and Jeff Morris (Place 7) as elected without opposition and was signed by Board President Jeff Morris and Board Secretary April Hill on Feb. 23, 2026. The board did not take further action on contested races because the candidates were certified as unopposed; the cancellation formalizes that outcome and ends the need for a May election.
