Board hears $4.4 million preliminary estimate for elementary work; asbestos and septic cited as pressing needs

Superintendent Jennifer Bordner briefed the Cherokee ISD Board on multiple facilities problems on Nov. 6, citing an asbestos survey under way and immediate septic repairs. Minutes record that septic issues are "roughly cost $35K" though final invoices were not yet available.
JBordner shared preliminary cost estimates from Claycomb Associates: about $2.9 million to build a new 8,500-square-foot pre-engineered elementary wing and about $1.5 million to renovate the 3,100-square-foot cafeteria and kitchen, for a combined preliminary total of roughly $4.4 million including fees. Trustees noted Time Warrant would not be sufficient to cover the project; the board agreed it is time to research funding options and next steps. JBordner also listed two bond/construction trainings on 11/13 and 11/18 and said she will register for and host the 11/18 seminar in the board room.
