OCCK to launch 'Orange' route in Salina on Oct. 12, 2026 to boost south-side service

Kerner described the route path (originating at Walmart, passing Schilling, Lowe's, Dillon's and Magnolia, then serving Centennial, Salina Tech, Schwan's and the airport before returning to Walmart) and the operational rationale: "It's called the Orange route. It will be our sixth route. It will run in a loop along south and southwest corridor of Salina. It will stop every half hour all day." Kerner said the Orange route will allow Purple to drop the long Centennial leg and improve on-time performance.
Kerner also said two underutilized stops will be removed from the fixed-route system (stop 30 and stop 31) with continued service available via paratransit for riders who need it. The commission asked about specific stop numbers and Kerner provided stop IDs and explained OCCK's plan to accommodate affected riders through paratransit and direct outreach.
